The Girodisc A2-220 2-Piece Rear Rotors are engineered specifically for the BMW F87 M2 and M2 CS models, providing a direct replacement for the factory carbon ceramic rotors without the need for modifications. For optimal performance, it is advisable to pair these rotors with brake pads designed to work seamlessly with iron rotors.
Construction and Design
The central hat of the A2-220 rotor is crafted from U.S.-sourced 6061-T6 aluminum, meeting aircraft specifications for strength and durability. The disc itself is made from Girodisc's proprietary cast iron, which is poured and machined entirely in-house in the USA. The rotor features a curved vane design, developed from racing technology, which acts as a centrifugal pump to enhance cooling airflow through the disc.
Floating Mount System
This rotor utilizes a floating mount system that incorporates 12 high-strength alloy steel drive pins, custom manufactured by Girodisc in the USA. These pins are cadmium plated to ensure long-lasting corrosion resistance and are designed to handle the loads generated during braking while allowing axial and radial float between the hat and disc. The pins are secured with class 12.9 cap screws and hardened washers for added reliability.
To minimize noise during operation, the pins are mounted with anti-noise spring washers on the rotor side. This innovative feature allows for thermal expansion while eliminating rattling and noise commonly associated with floating rotors. The floating design also ensures that the rotor self-centers between the brake pads, enhancing braking performance.
